The New York Cosmos fields a U-23 team that competes in the USL Premier Development League. Cosmos U-23 is a natural extension of The New York Cosmos Development Program and reinforces the club’s commitment to developing the next generation of world-class players. The Cosmos U-23 player pool is drawn mainly from the Cosmos Academy as well as selected elite NCAA college players.
The USL Premier Development League (PDL) is the top-level men's amateur soccer league North America, competing in the United States, Canada, and the Caribbean. It is considered to be a National U-23 league, with age exceptions allowed for older players to participate in the PDL.
The PDL has 64 teams competing in four conferences, split into nine regional divisions. The PDL seasons take place during the spring and summer months.
