New York Cosmos U23′s 2-0 Long Island Rough Riders

July 8th, 2011 – First half goals from Chelsea Moriken Sangary and Stefan Dmitrov secured a comfortable 2-0 victory for the New York Cosmos U23′s against the Long Island Rough Riders at Columbia University’s Baker Athletic Complex. Giovanni Savarese’s young Cosmos team has been steadily improving throughout the summer and this was another confident performance from them and rounds out a successful week for the team.

Playing in their patented attacking formation, The Cosmos kept possession extremely well throughout the match while remaining strong at the back. Cosmos Academy product and lightning-fast winger, Moriken Sangary, continued his hot streak by weaving through the Rough Rider’s defense to score the opening goal. He followed this up with an assist on the thirty minute mark when he raced past the opposition defense and then cleverly paused at the top of the box and layed the ball off to the onrushing Stefan Dmitrov, who finished coolly.

Sitting on a two goal cushion, the Cosmos were able to slow down the tempo of the match in the second half and play their intricate passing game. The Rough Riders did create a few goal scoring opportunities in the second half but Cosmos goalkeeper, Chris Antonino, was up to the task and recorded the clean sheet.
