July 7th, 2011 – Here is the latest news and match reports from The New York Cosmos Development Program.
New York Cosmos U23′s:

July 1 – Westchester Flames 4-2 New York Cosmos U23′s

This was a challenging match for the Cosmos and and they were forced to play without several veteran players. The Cosmos controlled possession for the first 25 minutes of the match however the Flames were the first team to score. Gio Savarese’s Cosmos were understrength at the back and the coach was forced to shuffle his team and play players in unfamiliar positions to cover for the absences. This unusual backline made a couple mistakes that lead to goals for the Flames.

Both teams created plenty of chances, however Westchester was able to put theirs away and ran out 4-2 winners.

July 6 – New York Cosmos U23′s 4-1 Ocean City

Gio Savarese’s young Cosmos team played their best game of their debut exhibition PDL season against the Ocean City Nor’Easters. The Cosmos played a very positive and attacking game and were able to dictate the play for the full 90 minutes with their possession style of soccer. Savarese was able to put 6 academy players in the starting lineup, including Marvin Iraheta and Ibrahim Diaby, and the youngsters responded well to the challenge.

Chelsea Moriken Sangary, who has had a great season after stepping up to the PDL level, had the Cosmos up 2-0 at halftime with a first half brace. The Nor’easters pulled one back in the second half but goals from Scott Wadell and Stefan Dmitrov rounded out the 4-1 victory for the Cosmos
