August 1st, 2011 - The Cosmos Academy East U-11's and U-12's traveled all the way to San Diego, California to play in the nation's top ranked soccer tournament, the Surf Cup. Prior to the tournament, both teams traveled to Los Angeles and enjoyed the hospitality of their counterparts in Cosmos Academy West. 

At the Surf Cup, The Cosmos U-11's won their group after winning all three of their games. In the Quarterfinal, they faced Nomads SC and after a hard fought 0-0 draw, they fell victim to the dreaded penalty shootout. They played well and were unlucky after dominating possession. The U-11's are a great group of talented players and were unfortunate to lose to the eventual champions.

The Cosmos U-12's also finished top of their group. In the Quarterfinal, they completely outplayed the host club San Diego Surf and won 4-0. In the semifinals, they played the second ranked team in the nation, United Futbol Gold. They raced out to a 2-0 lead but gave one back before the half. In the second half, the Cosmos boys scored the insurance goal they needed and won 3-1. The stage was now set for the final where Cosmos academy would meet, Patadores, the #1 ranked team in country.

In front of a large crowd, The Cosmos dominated the first half, hitting the cross bar twice but had nothing to show for it and the teams went into halftime scoreless. It was more of the same in the second half and again the crossbar denied the boys and at full
time the matched ended 0-0. The game went to penalty kicks where Patadores prevailed 5-4. It was disappointing for these young Cosmos but they bright futures ahead.
