Borough Boys Announce Bus Trips to Cosmos Matches at Hofstra

On Tuesday, the New York Cosmos supporters club, the Borough Boys, announced that they would be running buses from Manhattan to all Cosmos home matches in the 2013 NASL Fall Schedule. The buses will leave from Jack Demsey’s on 33rd Street and are open to all Cosmos fans. The round trip bus ride will cost $25 and includes beer.

Cosmos Hunt for New Talent at Player Combine

The New York Cosmos hosted a player combine at Hofstra University. Cosmos head coach Giovanni Savarese, along with assistant coaches Carlos Llamosa, Alecko Eskandarian and Memo Valencia were present to assess over 200 players in attendance. "It was a great day to see a lot of players," said Savarese. “The turnout was excellent. I think that we will definitely be able to sign a few players from this combine. Overall, it has been very good."

The Cosmos confirmed today in a forum with a group of supporters -- the Borough Boys -- they would return to play in the NASL Fall Championship season. Schedule particulars, specifically about the home opener, will be announced by the league in the near future.

Erik Stover Named COO of New York Cosmos

The New York Cosmos today named Erik Stover as the club’s Chief Operating Officer, responsible for all facets of the operation on and off the field. Stover is a 16-year veteran of the sports and entertainment industry having held senior management positions with the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority (Giants Stadium and IZOD Center) and Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego. Most recently, he was the Managing Director of Red Bull New York, a flagship team in Major League Soccer.

Shep Messing was a goalkeeper for the New York Cosmos for three stints in the 1970's and 1980's. He was in net as the Cosmos famously won the NASL Championship in 1977 alongside Pelé, Giorgio Chinaglia, Carlos Alberto and Franz Beckenbauer. He was a local kid playing on a legendary team full of world class players. 

New York Cosmos Return to Roots at Hofstra University

The New York Cosmos, retracing their historic journey to the top of North American soccer, will return to the field in 2013 at their historic home, Hofstra University’s James M. Shuart Stadium in Hempstead, L.I. The Cosmos, who announced in July that they had joined the North American Soccer League (NASL), first played at Hofstra in the original NASL in their second and third years of existence -- 1972 and 1973. James M. Shuart Stadium boasts a seating capacity of more than 13,000.
