August 5th, 2011 - Paul Scholes ended his glorious career in style as his Manchester United side defeated a New York Cosmos club returning to the pitch for the first time in 26 years. The Cosmos were being managed by Manchester United idol and New York Cosmos Director of Soccer, Eric Cantona, who mentored a young Paul Scholes when he was coming through the ranks at United.

With the Paul Scholes Testimonial on the horizon, the New York Cosmos wanted to get to know the local Manchester United supporters here in New York City. We were able to speak with Peter Holland of One United USA, the official American membership branch and supporters club of Manchester United. Peter is the Founder and General Secretary of One United USA and is one of the longstanding figures in the circles of New York City soccer.

June 10, 2011 (New York, NY) – It was announced just moments ago by Paul Scholes’ Testimonial Committee that a game will be played at Old Trafford, in celebration of Scholes’ career, against The New York Cosmos. On Friday August 5, 2011, Manchester United will host The New York Cosmos – who will assemble their squad, for this match only, with a combination of players from around the world personally invited by Honorary President Pelé and Director of Soccer Eric Cantona to represent the legendary American club (final roster to be announced).
