The Cosmos Would Like to Extend our Condolences to the Markovic Family

The Cosmos would like to send our condolences to academy coach, Cesar Markovic, and his family after the passing of his father, Miodrag Markovic. Markovic was born in Montenegro in 1932. He played professionally in the former Yugoslavia as well as in Bolivia. He coached professional teams in Bolivia, Ecuador along with clubs in the United States. In the U.S., Markovic coached Ukranian Nationals, Eintracht, Dalmatinac, Brooklyn Italians, and Philadelphia in the American Soccer League and was considered one of the best coaches of his time.

New York Cosmos Academy U-15s Win 2011-12 Northeast Pre-Academy League

The New York Cosmos would like to congratulate the players and staff of the New York Cosmos Academy U-15 team for winning the 2011-2012 Northeast Pre-Academy League Championships. In the final match, the New York Cosmos Academy beat New York Red Bulls 3-1 to earn the U-15 championship. The win was a rematch of the 2011 U-14 finals, won by the Red Bulls. The Cosmos Academy U-15 team will now advance to the NPL Champions Cup held on July July 27-31 at Wakugen Sports Park in Wakugen, IL.

One on One with Gio Savarese: The Cosmos Academy Prepares for 2012

On Saturday, the Cosmos Academy restarts their 2011/2012 Development Academy Season against the Baltimore Bays at John Dewey High School. For Academy Director, Giovanni Savarese, this match represents the culmination of a winter of hard work and preparation for his U-16 and U-18 teams.

December 9, 2011 - The New York Cosmos Academy sent their U-16 and U-18 teams to participate in the 2011 Development Academy Winter Showcase at the Premier Sports Complex in Sarasota, Florida. The Showcase ran from December 2nd to December 6th. All 78 Development Academy clubs played three games in Florida against fellow Development Academy clubs from across the country.

August 9th, 2011 - The New York Cosmos have announced its decision to cease operations of Cosmos Academy West. It is important for us to continually restructure and reconsider our strategy as we get closer and more focused on our long-term goals and objectives. Unfortunately, in the direction we are headed, Cosmos Academy West will not be able to function or exist given the parameters that a professional soccer team in New York City must follow. It is our goal to play in Major League Soccer in New York City.

July 28, 2011 -  Now in its 31st year, the San Diego Surf Cup continues to be the summer showcase for youth soccer’s best of the best. Surf Cup draws the attentions of thousands of spectators and over 300 college coaches and scouts every year. Cosmos Academy West sent four teams to the finals in San Diego, all of which performed incredibly well. 

New York Cosmos U23′s 2-0 Long Island Rough Riders

July 8th, 2011 – First half goals from Chelsea Moriken Sangary and Stefan Dmitrov secured a comfortable 2-0 victory for the New York Cosmos U23′s against the Long Island Rough Riders at Columbia University’s Baker Athletic Complex. Giovanni Savarese’s young Cosmos team has been steadily improving throughout the summer and this was another confident performance from them and rounds out a successful week for the team.
