The Cosmos held their fifth and final open tryout in New York City at Manhattan's Pier 40. The Cosmos return to the playing field for the first time in nearly 30 years on Aug. 3 at Hofstra University's Shuart Stadium when they face their old rivals, the Fort Lauderdale Strikers. BROOKLYN – The Cosmos held the first of five open tryouts throughout New York’s five boroughs at Brooklyn’s Verrazano Sports Complex on Saturday. In collaboration with the local club, Brooklyn Italians, 80 hopefuls had the opportunity of a lifetime. This was their chance to show their skill in front of the Cosmos coaching staff. Eventually one winner will be selected from this tryout be invited to a preseason trial.

The New York Cosmos and the beautiful game are taking over Long Island. With the 31st Annual Long Island Junior Soccer League Convention taking place in Melville over the weekend of March 9-10, coaches, kids and fans from all over Nassau and Suffolk counties are expected to flock to the Huntington Hilton.
